Constitution hill as part of its public program strands will once again partner with Sizoya Sibuye?s (SISI) and host the Woman?s Day.

The August celebrations of women?s role in bringing about societal change sees the launch of Sizoya Sibuye?s (SISI) Imbaula Project at the Women?s Jail, Constitution Hill on August 9th. The forum is representative of a body of women ex-prisoners from the notorious Number Four Apartheid prison in Braamfontein ? now Constitution Hill, a living heritage space in the centre of Johannesburg.
SISI started informally in July 2005 in recognition the role of women in defeating Apartheid. SISI celebrates women?s courage, sacrifices and staunchness and the acts of solidarity that finally has led to the celebration of South Africa?s constitutional democracy.

SISI is chaired by Ms Deborah Matshoba and a journalist Juby Mayet who were both incarcerated at the Women?s jail. The forum promotes public awareness of the women experiences of the Jail during the Struggle. SISI also provides a space for counseling for the many other ex-prisoners who are yet to speak about their experiences of incarceration here at the Women?s Jail. The August 9th 2007 celebration is hosted by Constitution Hill and Sizoya Sibuye. The SISI event starts:

The idea of the launch is to give a platform for Women and youth to gather around and listen to the stories SISI has to share.

For more information on SISI contact: Ms Deborah Matshoba: 084 991 9452 OR
Ms Juby Mayet 082 848 4418

We envisage having Imbaula?s as the idea to engage in dialogue. Sisi will be engaging the audience and we will also screen some of their footages.

Constitution Hill is a unique mixed-use development in the Inner City of Johannesburg implemented by the JDA, funded by Blue IQ and the new home of the Constitutional Court, the protector of our basic rights and freedoms. Constitution Hill is also the site of Johannesburg?s notorious Old Fort Prison Complex, commonly known as Number Four, where thousands of ordinary people were brutally punished before the dawn of democracy in 1994. Many of South Africa?s leading political activists, including Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela, were detained here.

In addition to the permanent exhibitions, interactive experiences and educational programmes , Constitution Hill offers venues for hire, as well as the Dome, the location for film shoot service, day and night tours, a full calendar of public programmes and exhibitions that bring the site to life and enable the public to connect with the activities of the Constitutional Court.
