ELEPHANT LUCK OR SKILL?

I was touring in the Pilanesberg National Park with a group from Englang who were mad about elephants.

We were travelling towards Pilanesberg Centre where they were to have something to eat and drink

It is a wide shallow valley, and way over the far side we spotted some elephant but a very long way away.  I scanned them with binoculars to see what they were doing, the were all walking nearly in a line and there over twenty of them. I decided that they were off to have a drink
. We went on to eat and drink and I decided to stick my neck out.  I asked if they would like to see the elephants drinking, and we set out.

I drove to where I had decided that the elephants were headed, reasoning that they would be headed for a large dam and not just water in the bush.  We drove to a dam, where I parked facing the direction that I was sure that they would come from.

I switched the engine off and said we would wait for a short time.
Only minutes later over the rise the elephants arrived lead by the matriarch and followed by assorted sizes, twenty six of them.  The guests were delighted.
They (the elephants not the guests) drank and then went into the water, the juveniles to fool about like children, the older ones to spray water on themselves.  We sat for a long time watching them, for it is hard to get tide of seeing their actics.
The delight of the guests made taking a chance by sticking my neck out well worth it.
